Back in the day, I exercised to burn calories. To look good and be able to eat what I wanted. As I age, good health is taking precedent. I am in this for the long haul, so I’ve adopted on a more balanced approach to fitness that emphasizes longevity.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I still want to look good and enjoy indulging without consequence, but my energy, wellbeing and remaining injury free are a solid part of my regime. I take time to breathe, stretch and move my body in ways that promotes health, good posture and restoration.
Engaging daily in mindful movement such as Pilates, Fascial Conditioning and CoreAlign brings quality sleep, reduces stress, keeps my brain sharp and body strong. Instead of aches and pains from overtraining, I feel a greater sense of strength, mobility, aliveness, mental clarity, and energy.

Pilates instructors are in high demand. It is a great career for either part-time or full-time work. If you love Pilates, if it has made a difference to your life, perhaps it is something that you would enjoy learning more about.
Teaching Pilates is fun. We work in a positive environment with likeminded people living a healthy and active lifestyle. It is an active job where you are moving your body while assisting your clients.
What is the Structure of the BASI Pilates course?
The BASI Pilates course takes place over 4 weekends every 4 weeks. In between each weekend you practice, do observation hours and study. This can be part-time study or if you want to complete the course requirements sooner, full-time study.
Once you have completed the 4 weekends in class/studio, 100 observation hours and personal practice hours, you begin as an apprentice instructor at a studio. This can take between 4-6 months. Most students complete their practice and teaching test anywhere from 6-12 months after the end of the classroom work.
Should you have prior education?
It is recommended that you are familiar in basic anatomy, physiology and movement principles. A fitness theory course will give you this information. INFOFIT.ca is an excellent company that teaches both in class and online.
Pilates is a great next step for Personal trainers. If you don't have this training, it is ok. But the more movement and anatomy knowledge you have going in the better. The course doesn't teach this, it focusses on the Pilates repertoire.
Personally practicing Pilates is important. The course is to teach you how to teach. The more personal experience you have the more you will get out of the course.
What is BASI and who instructs the course?
BASI Pilates operates in Orange County, California under the leadership of Rael Isacowitz. It is world renowned with teacher training courses world wide. The Tsawwassen Wellness Centre is a host facility for BASI. Instructors come from the BASI faculty and primarily live in the United States. As a host facility we will provide observation hours and possible mentorship for students.
